Grand Manan Ferry Wharf
North Head, NB

The $11.6M ferry terminal at North Head, represents the latest
developments in ferry boarding technology. The wharf/wave break
consists of rock filled concrete caissons constructed using High
Performance Concrete. The facility is equipped with steel fender panels
faced with ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, mounted on high
energy absorption rubber elements. The 55 m long lift bridge is raised
and lowered on a state-of-the-art hydraulic system using 4 hydraulic
cylinders with a 7.6 m stroke and ceramic coated rods. All bridge
operations including the level, speed, location relative to the water
level as well as the site lighting are controlled automatically by a
PLC.
