Eel River Bridge No. 1.5
Meductic, NB

Eastern Designers performed value engineering, preliminary and final
designs for these $15M, 235m and 232m long structures. During the value
engineering, several alternative structures were investigated including
concrete box girder structures, steel box girder structures, segmental
concrete structures and steel and concrete arch structures. The most
cost effective solution was a 3 plate girder superstructure (90 m and
96 m mid span) with 38 m high single shaft octagonal piers. Technical
challenges included a 50 m deep gorge, with steep slopes requiring
stepped rock anchored pier footings.
