Atlantic Tractors and
Equipment
Dartmouth, NS
A large maintenance/repair facility was built in 2000 for Atlantic
Tractors & Equipment Ltd., a Caterpillar equipment and engine
dealer serving the Atlantic Provinces. The building is a 12,000 m²
structure incorporating a sales office area, large maintenance/repair
area with several large cranes (up to 12 ton capacity), floor slabs
capable of supporting heavy loads, a large 4,000 m² exterior
concrete apron, several overhead doors and precast wall panels. Part of
a design-build team, Eastern Designers was responsible for the design
of all structural components including the steel superstructure,
masonry walls, precast panel connections, crane rails, suspended
floors, slabs on grade and foundations. The structural design and
structure erection were completed within a 6 month period.
This project demonstrates Eastern Designers’
experience in the structural design of facilities for heavy equipment,
major crane loadings and moving point loads on a fast-tracked schedule
while maintaining a strict structural budget. It also indicates our
ability to design cost effective, maintenance free slabs on grade (with
and without metallic toppings) for major equipment loadings.
